Congratulations to our U15 Water Polo team who valiantly defended the ESSA National Title this week, to be crowned champions for 2024.

Mr King, Director of Sport, reports back: “The finals were hosted by Habs Boys School, and it was a very close competition.

We started slowly in the first match against Dulwich College, but after conceding two goals, fought back and even had a chance to win with a penalty 40 seconds from the end. Unfortunately, it was missed and the game finished as a draw: Trinity 4-4 Dulwich College.

Dulwich College drew against Saint Ambrose College, which meant only a win would guarantee us a place in the semi-finals. A tense first half ended 2-2 but a brilliant second half (3-0) secured a win and a place as top seed in our group. Final score Trinity 5-2 Saint Ambrose College.

Our semi-final game was against Manchester Grammar School, who had finished second in the other group. It was another tight game; but we came out on top thanks to a hat-trick from the superb William Letchford.  Trinity 5-4 Manchester Grammar School.

This set up a final against the hosts, Habs Boys, which was a repeat of the final two years ago at the U13 level (which finished 3-0 to us). Habs had beaten us in the semi-final (4-3) and looked very strong in both their group games and semi-final. In the run-up to the final, three hundred supporters poured into the pool, which made a fantastic atmosphere.

We were quite simply superb from the outset in the Final, with Habs only really getting a single good chance to score. Our defence, especially in the second half, was completely dominant and we could have won by a greater margin.

However, a wonderful outcome for the team, and it means we have now won three out of the last four competitions at U15.”

Congratulations!
