Personal challenge

Students joining Trinity in the Sixth Form can continue working towards the Award if they have previously started, or join the scheme at any level, including direct entry into the Silver or Gold Award for those who have not completed other levels.

The award:

  • introduces students to exciting, positive and challenging activities to take part in during their spare time;
  • helps students make new friendships, working with adults who give up their time to share skills;
  • enables students to learn new skills and experience adventure;
  • is prestigious and valued by organisations and employers.

The Award

There are four sections (five for Gold): Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition, with an additional Residential section for Gold.

Volunteering: Students in the past have taken the Volunteering section with Croydon Police, Social Services (Meals on Wheels), First Aid with the British Red Cross, Life Saving and assisting with groups such as Beavers and Cubs.

Physical: Students have participated in a wide range of sports and other physical activities, including swimming, diving, tennis and martial arts.

Skills: Students have pursued their interests in drama, car mechanics and driving, electronics, librarianship and debating.

Expeditions: Expeditions at this level normally go to the Lake District, the North West Highlands or the Brecon Beacons. Occasionally there will be trips further afield; in the past some students have completed this section on expeditions to Norway, Iceland, South Africa and Canada.
