Future Pathways

The Futures Programme

The Futures Programme is designed to help young people learn about themselves throughout their time at Trinity, while exploring the wide range of opportunities available to them. The aim is to ensure students are independent thinkers, who can build their own knowledge about careers and make well-informed choices about their future, whatever path they choose.

In Lower School, sessions are designed to help younger students understand the nature of careers and the range of opportunities available. In Middle School, lessons cover the world of work and skills needed for the future. Specific career suggestions are aligned to support GCSE choices. Students complete a series of careers questionnaires, with results providing an insight into the style of work they might prefer and where their natural strengths and interests lie. The results will form the basis of a one-to-one interview in the Fifth Year which will help inform their A Level choices and the future pathways they may wish to explore.

We offer a variety of activities throughout the academic year. These sessions include talks from our alumni community who share their career journey with students. As well as events in school, we actively encourage students, via the regular Futures bulletin, to take advantage of insight days, skills workshops, and work-related opportunities, as well as organise Higher Education talks and promote the importance of university visits.

Preparation for life beyond school is a significant part of our Sixth Form life.

Higher Education

We have an excellent record in helping our students achieve places at top universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions, as well as offers for competitive degree apprenticeships.

Our Futures team offers information, advice and assistance with the selection of universities and courses – both in the UK and abroad – and helps students to identify suitable apprenticeship schemes and prepare for their selection.

We work with students on an individual basis to identify their skills, build a robust CV, complete applications for work placements and apprenticeships, and prepare for interview and assessments. We also run sessions on student finance and provide up-to-date information on gap year opportunities.

The majority of Upper Sixth make an application to Higher Education whilst others successfully secure places on Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Programmes. Some students decide to defer their place at university or apply post qualification, taking a gap year in the meantime. All students, whether still at school or on a gap year are offered access to careers information, advice and guidance, as well as support with any subsequent university application.
