This is a really exciting new chapter for our school and the wider community. Extending our co-education provision reflects our longstanding commitment to nurturing outstanding young people and preparing them for their future. Our aim is to build an even more diverse learning environment that benefits everyone. Our welcoming and inclusive community, excellent teaching and learning, and outstanding co-curricular opportunities puts us in a strong position to make this transition as we expand the school over the next five years.
As we progress towards becoming fully co-educational, we will share updates here. Below are the answers to some questions you may have about this change. As we develop our work programme, you can expect to see a timeline of activity, plans and designs for our new and improved facilities, and progress reports.
Throughout this work, we will continue to provide your child with the very best teaching and development opportunities. If you have any questions about the changes at Trinity School, please get in touch with us via co-education@trinity.croydon.sch.uk.
The plans, submitted in February this year, include new teaching, Sixth Form and fitness facilities, as well as new landscaped outdoor spaces for students to enjoy near the front of the school and an improved pick-up and drop-off area. The works will support the expansion of the school as we move towards becoming fully co-educational by 2031.
“We are very pleased to receive the green light on the works to support the gradual expansion of the school over the next five years,” said Alasdair Kennedy, Headmaster. “While it has only been one year since we announced our plans to become fully co-educational, the sense of momentum within the school is growing. It has been wonderful to start meeting families with daughters, as well as sons, interested in applying for 2027 and beyond.
“These new facilities will play an important role in supporting that next chapter and will benefit both current and future students across the whole school community. While getting the physical environment right is important, this is just part of evolving the culture of the school such that boys and girls of all ages can truly thrive here. Our work on this with staff and students continues.
“We also really value being part of the local Shirley community, and we will continue to work with our neighbours as we plan works over the next two years. ”
As the new buildings are located at the front of the school, the work will not affect existing buildings and play areas, minimising disruption to students and staff. The aim is for developments to be completed by summer 2028.
