We were delighted to hear that during the summer holidays, Fifth Year student Louie was selected as one of the best U15 cricketers in the country and represented London and East at the prestigious David English Bunbury Festival at Loughborough.

The renowned festival features 56 of the top U15 cricketers, divided into four squads based on where they live: London and East, South and West, Midlands and North. The squads compete in 50-over and Twenty20 competitions across a round-robin of games.

Louie had a fantastic tournament, taking 9 wickets across his games and was on the winning team. He was also invited to an ECB Player Identification Programme at Loughborough which involved England Pathway coaches.

He says, “I was honoured to be selected to represent London and East at the Bunbury Festival this year. I was nominated by my coaches and the Head of Talent Pathway at Kent County for both the Bunbury trials and the ECB Player Identification.

“For Bunbury, I attended three trials through May and June, then played in a two-day game in Oxford in July before being selected for the 14-man squad to represent the region in late July. Playing at the festival was such an honour, as was being part of the winning team after five days of cricket. It was great to play at such a high level and I learnt from my coaches, peers and friends along the way.

“The ECB Payer Identification was a great experience for me, I got to work alongside Graham Swann and Mushtaq Ahmed on my bowling discipline and I learnt a lot from their experience that I will take back into my own game.

“I got into cricket just before the pandemic and ended up joining my local club at 11. I enjoyed the sport thoroughly and decided to take cricket up as a hobby. Fast forward to four years later and cricket is my main sport, and I have progressed through club, school, county and now regionally. I participate in hours of training both inside and outside of school through the winter and summer.

“The thing I like about playing cricket at Trinity is that we are a ‘family’ who all support each other no matter what happens. We have a great coaching team (Mr Hooper excluded as his club team were relegated – sorry Bickley!) who want to make Trinity a top tier team and compete at the highest level. The amazing facilities at the school allow us to train all year round.

“I am looking forward to next season already!  I am hoping to continue my cricket journey at Trinity School in Croydon, representing the 1st team and achieving 50 caps. I will also continue to represent my county and club sides.”
