Trinity’s U15 rugby sevens squad were crowned champions at the Surrey Schools 7s tournament this week after an outstanding day of rugby that showcased teamwork, resilience and real character.

Drawn in a competitive pool of four, the students won all of their group matches to progress to the knockout stages. They then faced strong opposition from King’s College School and Epsom College, securing impressive victories to reach the semi final.

The semi final against RGS Guildford proved a real test. Trailing 12 to 7 at half time, the team dug deep to turn the game around and claim a memorable win. In the final, Trinity met Dulwich College in what was a fast paced and physical contest. The team emerged victorious with a 21 to 12 win, scoring three tries to two.

“The boys were brilliant all day,” said coach Mr Beresford-Miller. “Sevens is all about effort and attitude. The work off the ball is exhausting, especially when you are playing a full tournament in one day. The Surrey Schools tournament is competitive, there are some really strong teams involved but our boys really worked hard and it showed.”

Captain Harry H was a standout performer throughout the day and Leo C also made a huge impact, scoring key tries and setting one up in the final.

This result reflects the strong foundations built during the earlier rugby season (where they won the Plate at St Joseph’s Rugby Festival) and the students’ commitment to strength and conditioning in the lead up to the tournament.

Next up is the London Oratory Sevens this weekend, followed by the John Pieroni Festival in March. Congratulations to the team, and all the best for this weekend’s matches!
