Well done and congratulations to First Year student Kenan, who won four bronze medals at this year’s Surrey County Swimming Championships.
The event, which is held annually, took place at Surrey Sports Park in February. It is incredibly competitive, with only the best in Surrey qualifying, and Kenan earned the right to compete in an incredible nine events, which is a huge achievement in itself!
As a result of winning four bronze medals Kenan had a total of 1559 points and finished 4th overall in his age group, testament to the hard work he puts into his training. Kenan commented on his preparation for the competition, “My swimming schedule was filled to the brim, I was often doing 6-7 training sessions a week, but it was worth it.”
Kenan, who also plays on the school water polo team, said that being on the team has been very influential for his swimming. “I had never played water polo before I joined Trinity, but with my swimming I found a place in the team and improved under Mr King, who has really helped me and given me confidence. I use my swimming to swim end-to-end during games, which gives me stamina, but I also needed to learn ball control, composure when shooting, and defensive capabilities- all of which the team and I continue to practise in training.”
As he looks to the future Kenan has big aspirations, he says, “I would like to swim in the nationals one day, get top 3 in an event, and be selected to represent Surrey (maybe even Team GB one day!). But for now, the primary focus is to stay consistent, work on technique, and most importantly have fun.”
Well done Kenan, an excellent accomplishment and we look forward to seeing what you achieve in the future!
