We are thrilled to announce that for the first time in Trinity’s history, the Girls’ 1st VII Netball team is through to the National Schools Finals.
The team had already made history after a brilliant performance in the County Round of the tournament which took place last November and meant they qualified for the Regional Finals, which took place last weekend.
The team faced the champions and runners up from Kent, Middlesex, Essex and Surrey in a series of matches to fight for a place in the National Schools Finals.
Ms Bennett, Head of Netball, reports, “The first match was against Forest School from Essex, and we managed to win convincingly which gave the team a confidence boost for the following matches. However, the next game against Sevenoaks School was close, and after they defeated us by one goal in the final 10 seconds of the match, we realised this tournament was going to be a challenge.
“The team pulled together and achieved two good wins against Latymer Upper School and Barking Abbey from Essex. The next match against Godolphin and Latymer School, Middlesex champions, was very tough and another narrow loss meant the team was going to have to fight hard for a place in the National Finals.
“A crucial match against Guildford High, who were last year’s national semi-finalists, followed and the girls fought relentlessly and gained a win by just one goal.
“The final match was against Beech Grove School, from Kent, and it was all in Trinity’s hands. The team secured a fantastic win and with it a place in the National Finals!
“Player of the tournament was Izzy for her consistency, calmness under pressure and resilience – well done. A huge congratulations to all the girls involved, we’re very proud and we wish them every success in the National Finals.”
The National Schools Finals for the U19s will be held on Saturday 11 March 2023 at Oundle School in Northamptonshire. The top 18 teams from across the country will compete to be crowned national champions.
