First Year student, James Roberts, is currently playing a young Mick Carter in the iconic soap, EastEnders.
The storyline deals with the abuse that the character experienced when he was a 12-year-old boy in care. James’s main scenes are flashbacks and will be shown over the Christmas period.
This is the first time James has acted for television although he has acted on stage before; he played Charles Dickens’s youngest son in A Very Very Very Dark Matter at the Bridge Theatre, a play written by Martin McDonagh.
James’ mother is also playing a double in the iconic soap. She says: “It’s been amazing to see all the various sets of EastEnders – including the outside Square itself plus all the internal shots which are filmed in the studios. He met Danny Dyer, who was very friendly and had a ‘tea break’, sitting in the Queen Vic which was fun!
“It’s been particularly interesting to see how the filming has happened during COVID. To keep the two metre distance at all times, various scenes are being filmed using camera tricks.”
