On Saturday July 4, The Trinity Playing Fields were transformed into a musical extravaganza as we hosted another edition of the ever-popular ‘Trinity Proms’, with this year’s theme highlighting the ‘Swinging 60s’, celebrating 60 years of us being at Shirley Park.
The Proms is a great event, marking the end of the academic year as well as celebrating the school community as a whole and highlighting the breadth of talent nurtured across the school’s various music programmes.
This year we were pleased to present a host of acts ranging from the talented voices of The Trinity Girls’ and Boys’ Choirs to the jazz sounds from The Jazz Collective. It was a day filled with enjoyable music and lovely sunny weather.
While the event celebrated the musical talents of current Trinity students, we were also delighted to welcome the first-ever Trinity Alumni Band, bringing together former students from across several year groups. The Alumni Band was coordinated by Luca Wade (Class of 2021) on keyboard and featured Jasper Bew (Class of 2025) on guitar, Patrick Minton (Class of 2022) on trombone, Harry Lees (Class of 2020) on trumpet, Abi Watkins (Class of 2024) on bass, and Kieran Crowley (Class of 2018) on drums. It was fantastic to see alumni from different years come together on stage, showcasing the strength of Trinity’s alumni network and the lasting connections students maintain with the school long after they leave.
A particular highlight of the day was when Headmaster Mr Kennedy and Upper Sixth student Leo sang a fantastic surprise duet of Frank Sinatra’s ‘The Lady Is a Tramp.’ It was a fantastic display of the relationships our staff and students build over their time at the school, with some very impressive singing from our Headmaster and student alike!
As well as celebrating our staff and students, we were also pleased to have two guest appearances from Iain Mackenzie of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and Andrea Grant of Strictly Come Dancing. It was inspiring to see two singers who have excelled in their crafts and we were delighted that our students also got a chance to perform with both acts.
The day closed with a lovely duet of ‘All You Need Is Love’, with Trinity players and singers performing alongside our two guest acts.
Other memorable highlights of the day included some lovely pieces by The Trinity Musician of the Year Nathan and excellent playing from The Big Band 1! We would also like to thank The Sixth Form students and staff who gave up their time to set up various stalls, which were all raising money for The Trinity Malawi Project.
Well done to all our students who performed and a big thank you to everybody who came and supported our performers and made the event possible.
