We are delighted to have been named Social Mobility Champion in the School House Awards 2026, recognising Trinity’s long-standing commitment to widening opportunity and working in meaningful partnership with our local community.
Social mobility is not a new idea. It has been part of our purpose for more than 140 years and continues to shape the community we want to be today: one where talented young people from different backgrounds learn alongside one another, participate fully in school life and feel that they belong. It’s about the idea that learning (and working) in an environment and culture with different backgrounds and perspectives benefits all.
Our commitment takes many forms, from bursary support through the John Whitgift Foundation and Trinity Bursary Fund, to our lomg-standing partnerships with local primary schools.
Through our Trinity Partner Primary Schools programme, students and staff work closely with schools across our local community, sharing time, expertise, facilities and opportunities. The relationships are deliberately long-term and two-way, creating opportunities for younger pupils while giving Trinity students valuable experiences of leadership, service and learning from others.
This spirit of partnership was highlighted by the School House judges, including the recent work of our Sixth Form students with St Mary’s Catholic Junior School. When plans for an outdoor learning space had to be put on hold following an unexpected boiler failure, our students spent five weeks helping to transform the area into an outdoor classroom and garden.
The judges also recognised Trinity’s long history of widening access to education and our determination to ensure that opportunity extends beyond simply gaining a place at the school. For us, it is equally important that every student can take part fully in the experiences and opportunities that make up a Trinity education.
As we look ahead to becoming fully co-educational from September 2027, that commitment continues. we are broadening access to a Trinity education, and are committed to growing support through the Trinity Bursary Fund. The recent T60 campaign has successfully reached its goal of raising £1.4 million to support 60 bursaries.
We are very grateful to School House for this recognition, and particularly to the students, staff, families, alumni, supporters and partner schools who make this work possible. The award belongs to a community that continues to believe in widening opportunity, learning from one another and making a positive contribution beyond our school gates.
