Trinity-Steinway Scholars Ben and Isaac were recently given an extraordinary opportunity as they were invited to take part in the prestigious Milan Piano City last weekend.

The festival took place over the weekend 15-17 May and presented 276 piano concerts all over the city of Milan in three days.

Working in collaboration with Steinway & Sons, venues ranged from art and design studios, outdoor piazzas to parks and subways, with artists playing a vast array of pianistic styles.

Both pianists are holders of the prestigious Trinity-Steinway Scholarship and as such were invited to play in Steinway’s excellent new recording studio Officina-440 and the beautiful Studio Irvine.

Our students gave remarkable performances, Ben playing works by Rachmaninoff, Bach/Busoni and Liszt with a jazz improvisation as an encore; Isaac played Haydn, Mendelssohn, Debussy and Ravel with a stunning and jazzy Kapustin encore.

Upper Sixth student Isaac said: “Playing in Milan during Piano City was one of the most amazing experiences. The venues were beautiful and the audiences so friendly and encouraging. It’s something I shall never forget.”

Lower Sixth Ben agreed: “What an incredible few days we had in Milan Piano City. Playing concerts as part of this amazing festival has truly inspired me and it’s made it my absolute career focus. It was so great meeting so many other great musicians and the audiences were just amazing.”

Head of Piano at Trinity School, Mr Richard Evans, added: “We are enormously proud of Ben and Isaac. To be invited to perform at a festival of this international standing is a remarkable achievement and reflects both their exceptional talent and their dedication to music-making. They represented Trinity superbly and embraced every aspect of this unforgettable experience.”

The audiences were absolutely thrilled with their performances and they thoroughly deserved the rapturous applause and accolades.
