Trinity School celebrates outstanding A Level results as students achieve AAA average

Trinity School in Shirley, Croydon, is today celebrating its Upper Sixth students as they collect an outstanding set of A Level results, with an average grade profile of ‘straight A’ (AAA) across the year group and more than one in six securing three or more A* grades. Students have secured places at leading universities in the UK and overseas, alongside apprenticeships and opportunities in professional sport. 

In this year’s cohort of 156 students, more than a quarter (27%) of all grades awarded were A*, almost two-thirds (65%) were A*-A and 92% were A*-B. More than one in six students (26) achieved three or more A* grades, with 10 achieving at least four A*s. 

Students are heading to a broad range of destinations with 94% securing a place on their first or second-choice course. Among this year’s successes are 12 offers for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary courses and offers to study Classics at Oxford, Middle Eastern and European Languages and Culture through the dual BA programme at Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University in New York, Political Science at UCLA, Music at Cambridge and Psychology with Neuroscience at Bristol.  

Others are pursuing equally exciting opportunities beyond traditional university routes. Some students are taking a gap year; one student has already begun an investment operations apprenticeship with a Swiss bank, while two will start professional contracts with Harlequins alongside finance degrees at Bath and Nottingham.

Of course, results tell only part of their story. Results day is also a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the outstanding young people our students have become and to look forward to what comes next – whether they are studying, travelling, working or playing sport. 

“We are immensely proud of their hard work and wish them every success in the future.” 

Imogen achieved two A*s, an A and an A* in the EPQ and is heading to Oxford to study English. 

“I’m hoping to study – I mean, I am studying – English at Oxford! It’s a route I decided I wanted to pursue during my two years at Trinity. 

“I loved my previous school, but decided to come here for a change, and I’ve had a great time. It was definitely the right decision. I have really enjoyed my classes; everyone is so supportive and we have had a lot of fun. 

“I’ve played hockey and netball and enjoyed going to History and Literature Societies. Some of my favourite memories are from the leavers’ activities, especially the sports day and BBQ – all the silliness before exams!”  

As Trinity prepares to welcome girls into Years 6 and 7 for the first time in 2027, girls in the Sixth Form continue to thrive, achieving particularly strong A* rates in Religious Studies (71%), Psychology (60%) and Economics (60%). 

Further highlights include: 

• 60 students completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with one-third achieving A* grades and three-quarters achieving A*-A  

• More than 40% of grades in Physics, Maths, Further Maths and DT were A*  

• 100% of Art grades were A*, while 100% of Latin grades were A*-A  

• 100% of grades in Classical Civilisation, Computer Science, Drama, French, Music and Spanish were A*-B 

Additional student profiles 

Charlie achieved two A*s, two As and an A* in the EPQ and is going to study Civil Engineering at the University of Bath. He joined Trinity in Lower Sixth and says: 

“I feel so fortunate to have been at Trinity, and don’t think I would have got to where I am now if it wasn’t for the teachers and the friends I have made along the way. Everyone is so like-minded in their aspirations for you and each other; they help push you on and support you along the way. 

“I am really, really happy and glad I achieved my first choice of university and course.” 

Nell achieved five As, including one for her EPQ, and is heading to Liverpool to study Veterinary Science. 

“It has been my dream since I was five, and it feels brilliant to have realised that. Mr Heath has been such a help through my A Levels and applications.” 

Reflecting on Trinity, she says: “I have loved playing sport here; it has been so fun to continue hockey and make friends with the younger years. The community is so supportive, and the summer of Year 12 with all my new friends was just so fun.” 

Matthew achieved an A* and two As and is currently weighing up two exciting options. He has been offered the opportunity to play professional basketball in the Netherlands, but also has an offer to study Economics at Durham. 

“It’s been my dream to play basketball professionally, but I want to make a smart decision about my future. Trinity has been the best experience of my life. I joined from a primary school in Thornton Heath which didn’t have the same opportunities; here I have played hockey, rugby, cricket as well as basketball and been on so many sports tours. I am so grateful. 

“My top three memories are all sports-related: the Dubai Rugby Tour in Year 8, celebrating a teammate’s try in the rugby national cup and winning the London Independent Schools Basketball Association tournament twice in a row.”
