Congratulations to our U18 Water Polo team who won silver at last week’s ESSA National Final at Northampton Boys School.
The final scores were:
Group A
Semi-Final
Final
In all four fixtures, scores were level at half time, or one team had a one goal advantage, but we had strong second halves in our group games and against Whitgift (four unanswered goals), with moments of brilliance shared across the team.
In the final, the first half finished 3-2 to MGS but a couple of easy goals from the opposition early on after the break meant the game got away from us.
Mr King, Director of Sport, said, “We are very proud of the team and their growth over the course of this season. We have been U18 champions for three consecutive years, so they will be hurting still, but their support of each other following defeat and respect shown to their opposition was most impressive.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank Upper Sixth students Alex and Jared for their contributions to Trinity Water Polo. They have been a wonderful example to their peers and led a young team brilliantly this season. They have experienced many highs; it’s a shame that we were not able to give them one more in their final appearance for the school. They should be very proud of all they have achieved throughout their school water polo careers.”
Meanwhile…
Our U13 Water Polo team finished second in their ESSA 1st round competition last Thursday, with two wins and two draws.
Mr King reports, “We had a slow start against DPL but managed to secure a draw having been 3-0 down at half time. We lost our centre forward and talisman Will early on against Whitgift to injury, but Jacob did a superb job of filling that void and leading the team. Special mention for Harry, playing a year up, who was absolutely everywhere, winning back possession in our own half and delivering the final pass or scoring in attack. He worked tirelessly for the team.”
We now progress to the Semi-Final stage where we will meet a group winner from another 1st round competition, as well as a 3rd, 4th and 5th place team.
