Congratulations to our U13 Water Polo team, who have qualified for the ESSA National Plate Final on Tuesday 5 May after securing three wins and one defeat at yesterday’s home semi-final.

The results were:

  • 4–8 L vs KCS
  • 6–1 W vs King’s High
  • 4–1 W vs BMS
  • 7–2 W vs Highgate

Mr King, Director of Sport, reports back: “We improved steadily throughout the competition, producing our strongest performance in the final match against a solid Highgate side. The scoreline against KCS was perhaps a little harsh on us; we performed well, with the game level at 3–3 early in the second half, and we had also missed a penalty just before half-time. KCS did have an outstanding player, arguably one of the best in this age group, whose pace and shooting caused us significant problems, accounting for most of their goals.

“Two players deserve special mention:

“Second Year Hugh was exceptional, not only anchoring our defence but also taking on the responsibility of marking each opponent’s key player. He did this superbly while also contributing significantly in attack, either setting up teammates or scoring himself. One standout moment saw him win the ball on our own 2 metres, swim the length of the pool under pressure, and deliver a perfect pass to team-mate Harry for a goal, an action worthy of the highest level.

“First Year Kenan, our youngest player, was equally impressive. His energy and work rate were outstanding and had a real positive impact on the team. He scored several important counter-attacking goals and made excellent use of his swimming ability throughout.”

Well done to all the students involved and good luck for the final in two weeks’ time!
