Trinity School in Croydon is delighted to share the success of its Fifth-Year students who received their GCSE results today.  In a cohort of 125 students, we are pleased to share that 40% of the results awarded were 9 grades, with 68% graded 9 or 8, and 86% graded 9, 8 or 7. This is against a national picture of results returning to pre-Covid levels, as planned.

Particular congratulations go to the eight students who achieved eleven or more 9 grades.

Alasdair Kennedy, Headmaster, said “We are delighted that the hard work and ability of this year group have been recognised in these results; there are many individual success stories where boys have made significant improvements over the course of the last two years. The skills and resilience they have developed will give them every confidence as they move to their A Levels. It was lovely to celebrate this with so many of them and their parents this morning. We are proud of them, and we wish them every success in the next stage of their education.”

Students’ reactions:

Oscar said, “I’m feeling great, I got 11 x 9s in all my subjects. I was on track to get these grades, but it’s still surreal to receive them. I am so pleased. I was on the train this morning and couldn’t stop myself checking the results; I broke down on the train and called my parents. I worked really hard but the key for me was, unlike in the mocks, I made sure to exercise and still saw my friends; I didn’t make study my life and I am in such a good place mentally now. I am taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computing A Levels…although may swap in Chemistry. I am considering studying Engineering at university or have been looking at degree apprenticeships in engineering or technology. But for now, I’m heading to Nando’s for their GCSE deal!”

Matthew said, “I feel quite good about my GCSE grades, I worked hard, I got 3 x 9s, 5 x 8s and 2 x 7s. I will be taking PE, Maths, History and Economics and am looking forward to the new subjects, new opportunities and new people in Sixth Form. My dream is still to pursue basketball as a career, and I’ve had some interest from different teams in Europe. I’m really focused on winning the national basketball title with Trinity, we got to the quarter-finals for the last two years but I think we’ve now got a good enough team to win.”

Piran said, “I am feeling pretty happy…really happy, I got 6 x 9s and 4 x 8s. I am going to take Biology, Chemistry, German and History…though might swap in Maths as I am thinking about pursuing law or medicine further down the line. I’ve been working all summer, beach lifeguarding on the Isle of Wight to pay for the Rugby/Water Polo trip to South Africa next year. I’m looking forward to playing more water polo in Sixth Form; I’ve won two already, but there are still two national titles up for grabs.”

Joel said, “I put in quite a lot of work, so I am really pleased it paid off, I got 11 x 9s. It’s nice coming into school and seeing all my mates, it’s a good vibe as everyone’s happy so it’s nice to celebrate.”
