A group of students, all members of the Trinity Boys Choir, are currently performing as the fairies in Glyndebourne’s acclaimed new production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which opened this week to glowing reviews.

The boys have been rehearsing since before term began and delivered a magical premiere, joining the ranks of one of the world’s leading opera companies. This continues a Trinity Music tradition that stretches back more than 40 years, with generations of our students taking part in Glyndebourne productions.

This year’s cast taking on the roles of the fairies – including the four soloists – are First Year Glenn T, Second Years Charles A, Tom D, Oliver G, Michael M, Henry P, Daniel P and Ben W and Third Years Xavier K, Dennis L and Alex W.

Reviews have been full of praise for their performances. Opera Today admired how “the young singers of Glyndebourne Youth Opera and Trinity Boys Choir float a winsome choral texture as the fairies”, while The Latest Brighton described them as “a host of tiny delights swarming the stage”. The Stage also highlighted “all soloists from the excellent Trinity Boys Choir”, and London Unattached noted that the boys “manage [Britten’s] eerie 12-tone melodic shapes with aplomb”.

Director of Trinity Boys Choir Mr Mulroy said, “It’s a wonderful experience for our boys to perform at such a prestigious venue, and to see their professionalism and musicianship recognised at this level makes us all very proud.”

Congratulations to our Glyndebourne Fairies on a superb opening – we can’t wait to see more of their performances in the weeks ahead.
