We were delighted to hear that two of our senior cricketers, Tommy (Lower Sixth) and Arush (Fifth Year), have both been awarded places on the Emerging Player Programme (EPP) at Surrey County Cricket Club.
The programme is responsible for identifying and developing talented young crickets within the county, to set them on the pathway to playing for Surrey and England.
Mr Richards, Head of Cricket, says, “This is great news for Tommy and Arush. Their selection on this programme is a result of their consistent effort, attitude and performances over the last year for both Surrey and school and is a great achievement for both students. Well done!”
Arush started was introduced to cricket by his father when he was seven years old, and has played for Surrey since he was 10. He has represented Trinity since he was a JBug, and got his First XI debut as a Third-Year student, which he called ‘a good challenge’.
He says, “I have always been really invested in the sport, and have had constant support from my coaches and parents. I have had a lot of exposure to challenging cricket environments which has really helped me to get where I am now and is a huge factor in helping me to be selected for the EPP.
“I am really looking forward to the EPP programme, which starts very soon; I think that being selected is a big step forward for me and I hope to continue this path and strive to continue to achieve. I would love to become a professional cricketer, hopefully going on to represent Surrey and England, however, I know it’s a difficult journey and that I will need to work hard to achieve these dreams. I will continue to represent Trinity School First XI with the aim of putting in match-winning performances!”
Tommy started playing when he was six years old, as his dad is a big fan and introduced it to him then. He plays for Dulwich Cricket Club as well as the Trinity First XI.
Tommy says, “I have been playing for Surrey since I was 10 years old, and we won the U16 ECB National Cup last summer. I really enjoying playing for the First XI at school, as the team is really close.
“I am really happy to have been selected for the EPP and will do my best to improve my game during winter training. I would love to remain in the Surrey team through next year and then progress with my cricket in Australia after I finish my A Levels. Whatever happens, I will always play cricket at whatever level will take me!”
Congratulations to both!
