Congratulations to Lower Sixth student Will Haspel who has been selected to represent England U18s in Hockey. He is playing in Wales this weekend, and in Germany in a couple of weeks’ time and we wish him every success for the upcoming games.
Will has been playing for England Hockey for a few years, alongside other Trinity students, and plays for the Surbiton Men’s teams outside of school. He has been playing with the men’s second team, and more recently with their first team alongside their senior international players, many of whom will represent GB at the upcoming Olympics.
At Trinity, Will has been an integral part of every school team, often producing important goals or assists in important games when the team needed them most. He is also an outstanding indoor player achieving tournament top goal scorer in last year’s indoor qualifiers competition.
Mr Giles, Head of Hockey, says, “Will has done exceptionally well to achieve his recent selection and call up to England U18s. He is dedicated to Hockey and works extremely hard on and off the pitch. He commits so much behind the scenes to ensure he is conditioned to play international hockey and works tirelessly to develop his skills. He is such a role model to others.
“It has also been fantastic to have someone like Will coaching our Trinity U12 Hockey players this year so they could learn from someone so passionate about Hockey. He offered this coaching to our younger players when he was recovering from injury, which had caused a set back to his own Hockey, yet he remained dedicated to the sport and helped develop others. Overall, Will is very deserving of this opportunity after working extremely hard to be back competing on the international stage.”
Will follows in the footsteps of former student Joe Cotton who was our last England U18 player.
