The Upper Sixth are currently very busy, finalising their UCAS personal statements and applications for entry next year. Several students made the smart move to use the summer holidays to complete activities to enhance their experience, develop new skills and bolster their UCAS applications.

Upper Sixth student Georgina (pictured centre) is studying A Levels in Psychology, Business and French. She spent two weeks attending an international summer school hosted by EU Business School in Barcelona.

She said, “I saw the experience on Unifrog [a programme used by all students to plan their future pathways post-Trinity] and I was hoping to go to have something to put on my personal statement, while learning more about business outside of the syllabus. I also really liked the idea of being able to make friends abroad, and there were amazing opportunities to participate in activities such as paddle boarding and bubble football as well as visiting sites such as the Basílica de la Sagrada Família and a chocolate factory!

“It was very fun attending the course, I made a lot of friends from different countries, and it was interesting to work in a dynamic environment. Our main task was to create a business design and pitch it to the teachers at the end of the two weeks. Each day, we had to come up with ideas for each section of our pitch presentation, learning about areas including customer portfolios, branding and finance.”

Mr Paterson, Assistant Head of Futures, says, “These experiences are crucial to building the evidence that forms the basis of a strong personal statement for competitive universities both here and around the world or cover letters for job and apprenticeship applications now and in the future. Reading personal statements is a fantastic reflection of how incredible our young people are, and they make writing references for them very easy, both with what they have achieved and the character with which they achieve it.”

Georgina is applying to study management and marketing at university, and we wish her every success in her applications.

EU Business School (EU) is an international, professionally accredited, high-ranking business school with campuses in Barcelona, Geneva and Munich. The summer school is designed for students aged 16-18 who may be considering a bachelor’s degree in business. The programme provides students with an introduction to core business skills and industry trends as well as developing their skills through interactive workshops, company visits, case studies and more.
