This week, it was lovely to hear from a parent who paid tribute to one of our cricket teams, the U14Cs, with whom he has no direct connection. In their match against Brighton College last week, they endured every possible weather condition but maintained ‘undiminished positivity, boundless enthusiasm… [which] symbolised the fundamental Trinity spirit of participation, resilience, and sportsmanship.’ The conditions also made for ripe knee-sliding terrain, keeping all spectators entertained!
While the outcome perhaps didn’t matter as much as their attitudes, the team did in fact secure their first win of the season. Full match report from Sports Coach Mr McKinnon below:
“The U14Cs had the pleasure of playing away at Brighton College last weekend with what seemed to be a never-ending battle with the weather throughout the day. Travelling in torrential rain on the way down to Brighton with only one student – Arlo M – questioning how likely the game was to go ahead. Nevertheless, we made it down to Brighton and were met by a member of staff who too was questioning whether the game was going to go ahead. However, these doubts were swiftly ended when the boys were seen out on the astro wicket practising their bowling in monsoon conditions after being told that the game may only be able to go ahead with slow or spin bowling.
Brighton was put into bat first not due to losing the toss but the fact that a few of their players were still on the way to the ground after initialling thinking that the game was going to be called off! The boys were in high spirits, bowling and fielding exceptionally well, never letting the energy drop and managing to find any given opportunity to slide around in the outfield. Max B, Louis P, and Casper J bowled incredibly well considering the ball could have been taken out of a swimming pool and been drier. Max bowling 3 overs for 9 runs with 1 wicket. Louis Potter bowling 3 overs for 7 runs with 2 wickets and 1 maiden over. Casper bowling 2 overs for 5 runs with 2 wickets. The boys managed to bowl Brighton all out for 68, which set up the chase nicely on a very difficult wicket to bat on.
Unfortunately, the boys were unable to take their good bowling performance into their batting, seeing us lose wickets regularly to leave us on 38/7 at the halfway point in the innings. But up stepped Louis who managed to secure the first win for the U14Cs this season, scoring 21 runs off 16 balls and firmly cementing himself as the player of the match.
One of the most pleasing things to see on the day was Louis fielding for the opposition and putting in 100% effort to try and get Matthew B and Will T out. Showing true Trinity spirit and a top-class level of sportsmanship.
The boys were exceptional and deserve a massive well done for the maturity and sportsmanship they showed on the day. When a lot of people could have moaned about the conditions or the travel down to Brighton our lads remained positive throughout and thoroughly enjoyed their day at the seaside in the rain. In conclusion, Cricket may need to be moved to a winter sport.”
Congratulations to all involved!
