Just before Christmas, a group of Second-Year hockey players travelled to Barcelona for the pre-season Hockey Tour, with an epic four days of sports and sightseeing. Our Head of Hockey, Mr Giles, reports back:
“Barcelona played host to an action-packed four days, filled with exceptional weather, intensive training sessions, and explorations of the city’s iconic landmarks.
“Each of the bustling days commenced with rigorous hockey training, where the team honed their skills and tactics with Mr Moralee and Mr Wilson, this year’s U13A and B team coaches. The students’ commitment and energy on the pitch was excellent, and we saw them improve so much throughout the training tour.
“Amidst their training schedule, the team indulged in the city’s cultural gems and visited Park Güell, with its fantastic panoramic views, as well as the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sagrada Família. Multitalented Mr Porter provided the boys with a spontaneous history lesson (which was available in Spanish or English) of the Sagrada Família and its famous architecture.
“Throughout the trip, the students exhibited outstanding teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship, making their mark on and off the field. Among the exceptional talents of all the players, Julian C emerged as our Barcelona Man of the Tour for having a brilliant attitude, improving his skills and for consistently being a standout player for his team.
“Barcelona was a fantastic tour, and the boys will hopefully take away many happy memories from both on and off the pitch.”
Second Year student Julian says, “‘Being nominated Man of Tour was just the icing on the cake for me. We all had an amazing time playing hockey in the warm weather of Barcelona. It was a wonderful experience and we even had to speak some Spanish!”
Training and fixtures will now ramp up and we look forward to supporting all our Hockey teams this season.
