As part of our Trinity60 celebrations marking 60 years at Shirley Park, students are taking on the Trinity60 Challenge, raising £60 each for the Trinity Bursary Fund through creativity, determination and community spirit.
Second Year student Serafym chose to turn his love of baking into a fundraising opportunity, creating and selling beautifully crafted mousse cakes to friends and family.
“I came up with the idea of baking as my mum is a part-time baker, and it has always mesmerised me watching her make mousse cakes and other desserts,” he explained. “I also enjoy baking myself, especially using cookbooks.”
With experience gained from home, online videos and plenty of practice in the kitchen, Serafym set about making his own mousse cakes. “I chose mousse cakes because they are one of my favourites, and my mum has mastered them. She was able to give me advice on how to improve.”
Selling his creations to friends in his form and to family connections, Serafym raised £65 for the Bursary Fund.
Reflecting on his efforts, he shared why the cause matters to him: “I think it is important to raise money for the bursary fund. Not accepting students purely due to their families’ financial situation, even though they are capable of achieving highly, isn’t fair. It also gives them access to opportunities they might not otherwise have.”
Serafym’s mum added: “We are very grateful for the opportunity to take part in this project and to support such an important initiative. If anyone would still like to try the cake and help raise additional funds for the Bursary Fund, they are very welcome to get in touch with Serafym.”
The Trinity60 Challenge supports the Trinity Bursary Fund, helping to widen access to an outstanding Trinity education for future generations. Bursaries are made possible through the generosity of our community and the support of the John Whitgift Foundation.
So far, 69 students across the school have reached or exceeded their target of £60 each and a total of £10,300 of the £60,000 goal has been raised. Students have been taking on challenges ranging from Tough Mudders, car washing, readathons, music practising and sponsored silences.
