Eight cadets from Trinity’s RAF section of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) enjoyed an unforgettable flying experience last term, when they travelled to RAF Benson in Oxfordshire for a day in the air.
The opportunity gave students the chance to fly in a Grob Tutor aircraft alongside RAF pilots, experience aerobatic manoeuvres and even take control of the aircraft themselves under expert supervision.

LCpl. Emile (Fifth Year) reflects on the day:
“We were paired up with RAF pilots and flew around the surrounding airspace, flying over Oxford and Didcot.
“After reaching an altitude of 4,900 feet, we were introduced to the impressive aerobatic capabilities of the aircraft, the Grob Tutor. These included loop-the-loops, barrel rolls and stall turns, where we flew up to an even higher altitude, did a 180-degree turn and then a nosedive, followed by a swift pull back up to our normal altitude.
“We were also taught the basic drills of flying such aircraft, including use of the throttle and joystick, allowing us to fly the aircraft independently, with the pilot resting away from the controls!
“This was a truly brilliant experience for everyone, and one that has definitely inspired some of us to consider a career in the Royal Air Force.
“A huge thanks to Flt Lt Barber, who organised the trip, and to the amazing staff and pilots at RAF Benson.”

Experiences such as these are a highlight of the RAF section’s programme, giving students the opportunity to develop confidence, leadership and teamwork while gaining first-hand insight into aviation and military life.
We are grateful to everyone at RAF Benson for making the day possible and look forward to seeing where this experience inspires our cadets next.
