The Girls’ 1st XI cricket team produced a stunning display against Langley last week, securing a remarkable 152-run victory and recording the highest score in the history of girls’ cricket at Trinity.

Captain Eloise and vice-captain Rosie LG both scored superb half centuries as Trinity piled on 186 runs in a dominant batting performance, before an equally impressive bowling display sealed the win with four overs remaining.

Girls’ cricket coach Mr Lydon reflected on a memorable afternoon for the team, saying it was “a truly outstanding display from a great team. It’s a privilege coaching them.”

Following a tough loss in the cup, the girls were ready to put on a good show in a hastily rearranged 16-over fixture with Langley, who stepped in after Sutton withdrew. And put on a show they did.

Following Riley’s advice to bat first, it was clear this was a tricky wicket, a far cry from the belters at Trinity. Eloise watched the first five balls carefully before dismissing the sixth back over the bowler’s head for a one-bounce four.

What followed was an incredible feat of clean hitting. Trinity lost two quick wickets to decent bowling in the opening overs, but that only brought Rosie LG to the crease to join Eloise. Captain and vice-captain unfurled a breathtaking array of shots to put on a century partnership in next to no time.

Eloise struck two sixes and several fours, while Rosie hit powerfully through the covers and behind square, making a mockery of the slow pitch. Had they not retired, a 150 partnership looked well within reach.

Caitlin and Sophie M then kept the run rate moving with a rapid 20-run partnership of their own. Trinity’s total of 186 from just 96 balls reflected their dominance and marked a historic milestone for girls’ cricket at the school, with both Eloise and Rosie recording half centuries for the first time.

The bowlers then took over. Anya delivered another outstanding spell, conceding just five runs from three overs, while Chloe claimed 3-9 after impressing throughout the winter training programme.

There was further encouragement from the second-change bowlers, with Sophie C and Rosie B both taking wickets and keeping the scoring tightly controlled. Sophie M also produced the “champagne moment” with a sharp run out as Langley were dismissed with four overs still to play.

It was a superb all-round team performance and another exciting step forward for girls’ cricket at Trinity.
