On Saturday 11 April, around 65 singers from all generations of Trinity School joined in song to celebrate 60 years of Trinity Boys Choir and Trinity Choristers at a festival evensong in St Mildred’s Church, Addiscombe.
The massed choir sang music by Handel, Stanford, Parry and Nardone, and was conducted by Nicholas Mulroy and David Swinson (Director and Director Emeritus of Trinity Boys Choir), as well as distinguished musical alumni Stephen Jackson and Robert Harre-Jones.
Trinity Girls Choir was joined by the alumni singers in a performance of Peter Nardone’s I Give to you a New Commandment which was a particular highlight, while current students Ruby (U6) and Ben (L6) provided organ accompaniment with great skill and sensitivity. The brass ensemble, adding fanfare to the celebratory atmosphere, was made up of staff as well as current and past students.
Father Neil Brunskill gave an eloquently moving sermon on the formative and spiritual value of singing and collaborative music-making in general, which was at once a fitting way to reflect on the wonderfully rich, varied tradition of singing that Trinity possesses, and an inspiring message to carry forward as the next chapter opens.
After the service, many of the congregation and choir returned for a barbeque in the Pavilion, whiling away the evening with nourishment and nostalgia, while the more youthful contingent played football in the April sunset.
Many thanks to all who supported the event, a true celebration of choral tradition and community.
