Trinity’s netball season has got off to a confident start, with strong performances across all four teams and a real sense of momentum building on and off the court.
At the start of term, the teams enjoyed a clean sweep against Woldingham. All four teams secured wins, including a standout 15–7 victory for the 2nds, with Lower Sixth (L6th) student Mel impressing throughout the match. Upper Sixth (U6th) student Jess led the 3rds superbly as captain in their hard-fought 16–12 win.
The following week saw three wins out of four against Reigate Grammar. The 1sts delivered a commanding 31–17 victory, with U6th Zara thriving in Goal Attack, while the 2nds followed closely with a 30–17 win and an excellent shooting display from L6th Holly.
This week’s Caterham block on Wednesday brought some tightly contested games and fantastic netball.
In the 1sts (pictured left), the two teams were very evenly matched with Caterham leading by 1 goal at the end of the third quarter, having led in the first three quarters. It was a fast-paced game with outstanding technical passages of play. Caterham looked like a team who have been playing together for years as they executed set play after set play. However, some outstanding interceptions in the 4th quarter by L6th Elissa and U6th Maggie in the defensive circle turned the ball over allowing Trinity to score two more goals. The pressure of the tied game caused Caterham to make some errors in the 4th quarter which our girls were able to capitalise on. Keeping their cool and rising to the challenge, Trinity won by 4 goals! Brilliant work also from L6th Ali who was a pivotal player, bringing the ball down the court and sinking goals in her position of Goal Attack.
The 3rds were held to a dramatic 16–16 draw after a last-minute Caterham goal, with U6 Holly outstanding as Goal Attack. Despite narrow losses for the 2nds and 4ths, L6 Sophie was named Player of the Match for the 2nds after an impressive performance.
Reflecting on the term so far, Mrs Bennett, Head of Netball, said, “The girls have shown great commitment, adaptability and teamwork so far this season, and it has been wonderful to see players supporting each other and growing together.”
Well done to all students involved for such a positive start to the season.

Although the main competitive season sits in the spring term, the autumn term is a crucial time for Trinity netball. With new students joining the Sixth Form each year, this term focuses on forming teams, understanding individual strengths and building trust and rapport. We are usually competing against schools whose teams have played together for years, but the determination of our students is demonstrated by the success they enjoy.
