Sixth Form students Alex Connaghton and Chris Lipczynski have both been voted into the starting XV for the ‘Fifteen Rugby Schools Rugby Counties XV’.
The team, run by Fifteen Rugby, was set up to promote schoolboy rugby and its associated values of good sportsmanship in the UK.
Students were nominated by their school coaches and then streamed into five regional sides by Fifteen Rugby. These five sides were later submitted to a public vote and, after three days of furious voting, both Alex and Chris were selected for the Schools Rugby 2019/20 Counties XV.
The term ‘Counties’ relates to the fact that players could not be part of a Premiership academy.
A superb group of players was selected and Trinity is proud to have not one but two players: In the second row is Alex Connaghton, while Chris Lipczynski was voted into the inside centre berth.
Mr Kench, Director of Rugby and Head of Sports Development said: “Chris Lipczynski and Alex Connaghton are both fantastic students who have put in so much effort into their sport. This is fantastic recognition for two boys who epitomise what being a Trinity Rugby player is about. They both train incredibly hard, are polite and diligent young men and work fastidiously when it comes to their academics.”
Fifteen Rugby seeks to promote schoolboy rugby in an environment that is fun, interesting and engaging. “We want to be able to show pupils that the pathway from the school playing fields to the glory of Twickenham is a short and exciting one,” the organisation says. “It has been a brilliant season. Congratulations to each and every player that pulled on their school shirt!”
Congratulations Alex and Chris!
