At the start of this week, captain of Trinity’s Movember team and Head of History, Mr Hutchings, launched the fundraising initiative by ‘shaving’ goodbye to his moustache of 14 years watched by a huge crowd of students.
November is the month for growing moustaches in aid of men’s charity Movember, which tackles important issues including mental health and men’s cancers. Four Trinity teachers, led by Mr Hutchings, have committed to raising awareness and money for the charity this month.
As a longtime moustache-wearer, Mr Hutchings decided to fundraise by shaving off his hallmark handlebar (originally grown for Movember 14 years ago) to see how far he can grow it back by the end of the month.
A large crowd of students and staff gathered in the Student Foyer for the shaving ceremony, with Mrs Lattery-Lee entrusted with the razor. Whoops and cheers echoed as Mr Hutchings emerged smooth-faced and, as one student commented, looking years younger.
Mr Hutchings has shared his story of being diagnosed with cancer last year and is leading a team of teaching staff – including Mr Lydon, Mr Halliday and Mr Kimmins – in attempts to grow moustaches, complete running challenges and raise money for this important cause.
So far, the team has raised £2,256 thanks to staff and alumni and could be in with a chance of ranking in the top 10 of all UK schools involved. If you would like to support their efforts, please do so via their Movember page. Thank you.
