It’s been another busy few days of rugby this past week, Trinity students across a range of age groups played well against tough competition. Highlights include the U13s becoming the Orleans Park Cup Champions and the U15s continuing their unbeaten season to become The John Pieroni Tournament Plate winners.

Orleans Park Cup Championships – U13s

On Thursday 12 March, the U13s sevens team headed down to Twickenham to Orleans Park School, for the Orleans Park Cup Championships. The students played six other schools and with the likes of Wilsons and Reigate Grammar, they knew they had to put in a big shift.

They went onto play an amazing tournament, winning all their games to become the overall cup winners, showing their ability to work well together as a team and perform under pressure. Mrs Long, coach on the day echoed this saying, “The boys improved their understanding of sevens and how to play different styles of attack and defence. They were incredibly strong in defence, leading to lots of turnovers and some spectacular interception tries.”

It was also great to see Trinity alumnus Ross Sinclair (Class of 2022) who was refereeing throughout the tournament as part of his work with Richmond RFC. It was amazing for one of our National Cup winning students to present the U13 team with their winning trophy.

John Pieroni 7s – U15s

Sunday 15 March saw the unbeaten U15s finish their season at the John Pieroni annual 7s tournament in Wimbledon.

The team were drawn into a strong group but soon rose to the challenge with wins against Hurstpierpoint and Bedford. The next game saw the team fight to the very end with a tough match against Dulwich, which ended in a draw 14-14. The teams pool concluded with a match against St Benedicts where they remained undefeated. However, in an unfortunate turn of events the final standings were decided on a points basis, meaning the team wouldn’t progress to the cup final and instead had to settle for the plate final.

Although slightly disappointed, the team dug deep and were crowned the Plate winners after a win against both Hurstierpoint and Wimbledon College.

Mr Beresford-Miller, the U15s coach, commented on the team’s success this season saying, “This is the third piece of silverware for the boys and rather incredibly, they have remained unbeaten throughout the 7s season. This is testament to their hard work, and they should be very proud!”

Reigate Grammar invitational – U12s

The U12s ventured out to Reigate this past week to attend the Reigate Grammar Invitational. A large group of 20 boys were split across two teams, with both teams progressing to their respective bowl and vase finals.

Both teams did brilliantly working well to get to their respective finals, with Mr Turner’s side winning their bowl final. Both teachers commented on the excellent effort the teams put in, working well as a team and giving everyone a chance to have a go on the pitch.

Mr Marriott, Head of Physical Education commented on the day saying, “Both teams had a great day, with boys supporting each other and having to dig deep to get some results.”

Well done to all the teams who played across this past week, excellent efforts, and sportsmanship all around !
