Last week we hosted an event to celebrate the success of our water polo teams this season. The teams made Trinity history by winning all three boys’ national titles in the same year, bringing home the U13, U15 and U18 ESSA National Championship titles for 2023. In addition, the girls’ team reached the national finals and finished fourth in the country. These fantastic results put Trinity right up there as one of the strongest schools for water polo in the country.

The event was for our successful teams and their families and our winning water polo players were presented with their match caps – embroidered with their name, national title and the year.

Trinity alumna Kathy Rogers (class of 2017), who plays professionally in Greece and recently captained the England Women’s Water Polo team playing alongside current student Lucy, attended the event to present the students with their caps.

Kathy said, “It’s really great to be back at Trinity to present the winning teams with their match caps…I remember some of the boys when they were JBugs and now they’re winning national U18 titles which is really amazing. Well done to them all.”

The audience enjoyed speeches from Headmaster Mr Kennedy, Head of Aquatics and Performance Sport Mr King and Ian Marsh, our fantastic coach who has been involved with water polo at Trinity for over 50 years.

We were delighted to give special mentions to a couple of students: Third Year Kal-El, who had never played water polo before joining Trinity, and who held all three national titles in one calendar year after winning the U13 title in 2022 and this year’s U15 and U18 titles. Second Year student Charlie won the U13 title in 2022, and the same title again this year as well as playing up and winning the U15 national title. Outstanding performances from both talented students.

Mr King said, “We are extremely proud of all our water polo players, and winning three national titles is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the students. However, it doesn’t stop here, we were straight back to training as we now have a lot of work to do to defend our titles next year. I believe this quote from rugby union coach Ronan O’Gara is very fitting, he said ‘We become a special team after today, but then you want to create a dynasty. You want to keep knocking off records, keep having fun and letting young kids live their dream.’ That’s what we’ll continue to do here at Trinity.”
