We were delighted to hear that alumnus Air Vice-Marshall Paul Godfrey OBE (Class of 1990) has been appointed to Assistant Chief of Space Operations for Future Concepts and Partnerships by the US Space Force.
Air Marshall Godfrey was our guest speaker at last year’s Prizegiving Ceremony, and shared how the opportunities offered at Trinity – in particular joining and excelling in the Combined Cadets Force (CCF) – set him on the path for a successful career in the Royal Air Force.
Air Marshal Godfrey assumed his new role on 17 June 2024 after spending three years as the inaugural commander of the UK Royal Air Force’s Space Command. The move from the UK to the US is seen as an unprecedented move, and an example of the special relationship between the two nations. Further detail about the appointment has been taken from the Royal Air Force news story below. We wish Air Marshall Godfrey every success in his new role.
Air Marshall Godfrey will advise Gen. Chance Saltzman, Chief of Space Operations, in establishing international partnerships to achieve space superiority and resilience.
He said, “Partnerships allow us to build trust, share information and truly integrate operations to maximise resilience and defend against aggressive behaviour.”
According to Saltzman, Godfrey’s appointment will promote closer cooperation with the United Kingdom noting that international allies are critical force multipliers that boost Space Force’s resilience and competitive advantage.
Before becoming the UK Space Command commander, Godfrey served in the Middle East within the US Air Force’s Combined Air and Space Operations Centre.
He was also the head of Carrier Enabled Power Projection for the UK’s Ministry of Defence and the station commander of RAF Lossiemouth.
