Congratulations to two students from Trinity School, Croydon, who represented Great Britain at the European Biathle Championships 2024, in Funchal, Madeira last week.
JBug Harry Beeraje competed in the U13 categories against young athletes who are a year older than him. He achieved a silver medal in the individual competition, a team gold, and also gained a bronze medal in the mixed relays (run 400m, swim 50m, run 400m).
He was joined in Madeira by Lower Sixth student Alex Middleton who competed in the U19 and Junior categories of the competition. Alex achieved a bronze medal in the U19 individual event, a team silver media and he won the U21 Junior category for the mixed relays with his partner (run 800m, swim 100m, run 800m).
Alex said, “It was a good few days away and it was nice to see Harry out there competing too. We both performed very well and are looking forward to the same again next year!”
…
Both students regularly compete in local, national and international competitions and it’s nice to see a familiar face from school on the competition track!
Harry started competing in biathles in 2022, and this year won the Whitgift Schools Biathlon Qualifier for the second year running. Since joining Trinity in September, Harry has been training regularly in the pool, has joined the water polo team and plays rugby, football and hockey, which all contribute to his overall fitness.
Alex recently undertook a swimming challenge to raise money for the Trinity Malawi Project, an ongoing partnership between the school and – through the charity Hope4Malawi, set up by former Trinity parents – Chipwepwete Primary School in Malawi. He and four members of the Water Polo 1st team swam the distance across the English Channel in the school’s swimming pool in 4h 10minutes. They are trying to raise £3,480 (the distance they swam was 34.8km), if you would like to donate, please visit the JustGiving page.
