Six lucky JBugs from Trinity were recently invited to attend the 25th anniversary launch event of the NSPCC’s ‘Number Day’, with a very special royal guest.

Number Day takes place in February and aims to promote an awareness and love for all things numerical, to better children’s future outcomes, whilst also raising valuable funds for the NSPCC.

The event was held at Legoland Windsor, and whilst Miles, Michael, Mikey, Caleb, Alex, and Charu were disappointed that the park itself was closed, they had a highly enjoyable day. They participated in various number-based activities and Lego mini-golf, whilst having the opportunity to talk with HRH, the Duchess of Edinburgh, a Patron of the NSPCC.

Also in attendance was 2023 ‘Bake Off’ finalist and NSPCC supporter Dr Josh Smalley, who had baked a Number Day cake to celebrate the launch, which the students enjoyed sampling. Meanwhile, Mrs Taylor was very pleased to get a selfie with NSPCC ambassador Jonny Ball!

When the NSPCC’s event had finished, our students were treated to a taster of the educational workshops at Legoland, learning about the importance of gravity and friction in building rollercoasters and using Scratch and robotics to create rides using centripetal force (not centrifugal, as the students learned!). After a quick look around ‘Miniland’, trying to get an early spot of who was inside the White House (pre-election), the students were all given a Lego advent calendar and whisked back to school. A great day was certainly had by all.

The students said: “We give the Legoland park a rating of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! It was very beautiful and we all loved the workshops. We also liked how kind and generous the staff were. Meeting Jonny Ball and the Duchess of Edinburgh was a pleasure we may never have again. As a group we enjoyed it and would love to go back!”

With thanks to the NSPCC for the invitation to be a part of the Number Day launch.
