We were delighted to welcome back representatives from some of the leading international universities on Monday to speak to our students about opportunities to study abroad.

The event was held in partnership with University Guys, the independent specialists, who support students in exploring, preparing for and applying to universities all over the world.

Building on the success of last year’s event, this year we invited Fifth Year students as well as our Sixth Form. We also extended the invitation to our neighbours Croydon High School and Royal Russell, who were delighted to send a small group of interested students.

As part of the evolution of our Futures Department (FKA Careers), we are keen to engage students before Sixth Form and start them thinking about their options for after A Levels.

International universities fair 2023

Fifth Year student Callum said, “Studying abroad wasn’t something I had thought about before, so I was interested to speak to a few of the universities here. I am keen to follow a career in STEM, possibly engineering, and had a really good conversation with Concordia University in Canada, which seem to have the best options of courses in engineering. Going to Canada would be amazing.”

Mr Aldridge, Head of Futures, said, “While most students will continue on to UK universities, it’s important they are aware of the options available to them. Applying to international universities does take a different approach, but anything is possible, and we are happy to discuss the support out there. We’ve had a number of students in recent years attending university abroad with some taking up sports scholarships, others choosing a combined course (Trinity College Dublin and Colombia University in New York, for example) and a recent leaver headed to Bocconi this year, the renowned European business school in Italy.”

Sheena Mehta, Director at University Guys, said, “The UK population of 18-year-olds is bigger than ever, and will continue to grow until 2030. This means that places at UK universities will become more and more competitive. Considering international universities means students can expand their options, and it does not always mean paying more than studying in the UK. Studying abroad can provide students with different perspectives, broaden their careers options and help them to build important global networks for their future.”
