Congratulations to the eight Trinity students who successfully completed their PADI Open Water Course assessment earlier this summer.
The students spent a weekend at the Wraysbury Diving Centre completing the final sections of the Course. Oscar, Arien, Oliver, Taran, Tommy, Jackson, Nishil and Ruby applied the skills they had developed during the Confined Water and Knowledge Development sections, taught at the Trinity Swimming Pool, to help them successfully complete their open water dives.
Mr Gray, Trinity Diving Instructor, commented on the student’s success saying, “The students did really well over the weekend. Each dive consisted of some skills practice followed by a tour dive to explore the various Wrecks and discover the freshwater aquatic life the Wraysbury lake has to offer. A very successful weekend. All the students are ready for some fantastic Scuba adventures in the future!”
Student Reflection: Arien’s Experience.
“I had no previous experience of scuba diving before taking this course, but I had always wanted to learn. When I heard that the school offered a scuba diving club, I encouraged my friends to join as well. We attended the club after school for a term, and it was a great experience, especially learning in the Trinity School swimming pool.
During the pool sessions, I developed many important skills, including breathing slowly and steadily through the regulator, clearing my mask, and equalising my ears regularly. When we progressed to the open water dives, the experience was completely different. It felt much more realistic and required greater awareness of safety, but it was an amazing experience to remain underwater in a lake for around 20 minutes.
The most challenging part of the open water dives was controlling my depth by adjusting my breathing and remembering to equalise frequently to avoid discomfort or pain in my ears. Despite this challenge, I really enjoyed the course and gained confidence with every dive.
In the future, I hope to continue scuba diving while on holiday, including diving on the Great Barrier Reef, where I can build on the skills I have learned and experience one of the world’s most famous dive sites.”
