As part of our Trinity60 celebrations marking 60 years at Shirley Park, students are being encouraged to raise £60 each for the Trinity Bursary Fund through the Trinity60 Challenge. One Third Year student has gone well beyond that target, taking on a bracing festive challenge and raising an impressive £250.

Over the week before Christmas, Edward W completed a sponsored daily outdoor swim at Charlestown Beach in Cornwall. What started as a holiday idea quickly became a test of resilience, with sea temperatures averaging 9-11 degrees Celsius.

“I came up with the idea on the drive down to Cornwall for a week long holiday,” Ed explained. “The drive was six hours long so I had plenty of time. I thought it would be fun since I’d done a few dips from the beach but nothing consistent like this…little did I know it was going to be very cold!”

Despite the icy temperatures, Ed embraced the experience. “It was very fun, although I can’t say I got used to the cold, but it wasn’t all bad and it was definitely a good wake up,” he said.

Ed used the SuperKind platform to share his fundraising page with family members. “I used the website the school provided to fundraise and sent the link to as many family members as I could,” he added. Reflecting on the wider challenge, he said, “I think this is important to get involved in because it’s for a good cause and gives you a great opportunity to do something a bit different that you might not normally do.”

Well done Ed!

So far, students have raised over £2,000 towards the overall £60,000 goal and have committed to activities including Tough Mudder competitions, daily music practice and sponsored silences. All students can take part by activating their SuperKind account, with funds going directly to the Trinity Bursary Fund.

The Trinity60 Challenge supports the Trinity Bursary Fund, which helps widen access to an outstanding education at Trinity for the next generation. Bursaries do not come from school fees. Every bursary place exists thanks to voluntary donations from our community, alongside a generous grant from the John Whitgift Foundation.

Those who would like to donate directly to the Trinity60 appeal can do so via the Trinity Gives website.
