Talented Upper Sixth music and drama scholar Jasper Bew is starring in Freya Skye’s new music video ‘Someone to Love’, released on 13 September. Freya represented the UK in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest aged just 13 in 2022 and is set to star in Disney’s upcoming Zombies 4 movie, out next year.
Jasper was offered the music video role through his agent, although he had previously met Freya when they attended an acting course together in the summer of 2022.
He says, “When I auditioned, it was only meant to be a performing role. However, after the directors realised I could play the acoustic guitar – and had learnt the song while preparing for the recording – it became more of a collaboration. Freya and I recorded an acoustic cover of her song on the day; it is very catchy, so I was able to pick it up quickly, which the music director was very impressed and pleased about.”
Jasper continues, “The music video was filmed in one day in June 2024 in the impressive Elstree Sky Studios in West London. I’ve filmed various things in studios across London and abroad, but this was a different scale and, as it was a collaboration between Disney and Hollywood Records, there were lots of different creatives and people on set. There was the usual preparation including hair, make-up and costumes and the large shallow pool of water was stained with ink to give it the desired effect. It was amazing to get to know Freya better, experience all the behind-the-scenes moments and a brilliant opportunity for me to get my name out in the industry, especially with directors from Disney at the recording studio with me.”
The music video has currently racked up over 56k views on YouTube, with many more across social media, and Jasper is waiting to hear whether there will be further work for him following its release.
Jasper has plenty to keep him busy in his final year of A Levels and says, “I am currently composing a jazz fusion piece in the style of Snarky Puppy for my A Level Music composition. I would also like to develop an orchestral piece, from a composition that is currently playable on piano, but needs arranging for an orchestra.
“Through my different experiences I am keen to pursue a career in music, focusing on contemporary and jazz as well as music production. I am always exploring ideas and aim to produce my own music as well as collaborating with other performers and musicians, both currently and in the future.”
Jasper has been performing since a young age and was the only child ever to play all three principal musician roles (Freddy – drummer, Zack – lead guitar and Lawrence – keyboard) in the West End production of School of Rock from 2018-2020. At Trinity, Jasper has been heavily involved in all the Music Department has to offer, touring with the Trinity Boys Choir, as a chorister and, as a multi-instrumentalist in various rock, pop and jazz groups over the years. We look forward to seeing where Jasper’s talents take him, well done.
