Lower Sixth student Luke T has been awarded a Jack Petchey Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment to volunteering as a Young Leader with the 6th Tolworth Scouts.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme celebrates young people aged 11 to 25 across London and Essex who go above and beyond to support their communities. Luke was nominated by Keith Axbey, Leader of 6th Tolworth Scouts, for his long-standing dedication to the group. This includes supporting camps and activities, encouraging younger members to get involved, and volunteering as a paddlesports instructor.
Luke first became a Young Leader three years ago while completing the volunteering section of his Duke of Edinburgh Award, but his involvement in scouting goes back much further.
“I have been part of the scouting association for a very long time,” Luke explains. “What I really enjoy about being a Young Leader is giving back to a community that I have benefited from so much. I also really enjoy leading young people and helping them progress through such important developmental years.”
Keith, who has known Luke since he was four years old, nominated him for the award in recognition of his consistent dedication to scouting over many years.
“The award means a lot to me,” Luke says. “It is an honour to receive it, and it motivates me to carry on doing the work that I do with scouts.”
As part of the award, Luke will receive a grant which he plans to put towards funding his Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition to Sweden. He is currently completing his Gold Award through the scout group.
Congratulations to Luke on this well deserved recognition and for his inspiring commitment to service and leadership within his community. Giving back is an important part of life at Trinity, and students have the opportunity to volunteer and contribute to the local community in various ways throughout school – including through our Trinity Partner Primary School programme, Field Days and the Sixth Form Diploma.
