This week, while most of the school were in exam-mode, our Lower Sixth students turned their attention to life and study after Trinity, during our annual Higher Education (HE) Week.

All week, students participated in a range of workshops to start thinking about UCAS applications, degree apprenticeships, and gap years. The Futures team always encourage our students to keep their options open and have several future pathways available to them after finishing their A Level studies.

There were a range of practical sessions with the Sixth Form team who covered: UCAS applications and choosing the right course; how to write a personal statement – including Oxbridge and Medicine Dentistry Veterinary (MDV)-specific; finances and budgeting; applying for degree apprenticeships; making the most of planned Gap Years; and even some mock entrance exams for Oxbridge applicants.

A speaker from the University of East Anglia joined us to give students a talk on starting at university and what they are looking for in an outstanding applicant, and everyone appreciated that alternative perspective.

We were also delighted to welcome back a large group of recent leavers, with eight students who are currently studying a range of subjects (Maths, Geography, Biomedical Sciences, Urban Planning, Aeronautical Engineering and more) at leading universities around the country talking about personal statements in a panel discussion on Wednesday.

On Thursday, a total of 20 recent alumni (pictured above) participated in a Q&A in the Mitre Theatre, followed by a buzzy group session in the Sixth Form Centre, allowing current students to pick the brains of young people who have recently been through the process.

Overall, it was a very successful Higher Education Week, leaving students feeling excited about their prospects and keen to get ahead of the application process.

Many thanks to all our guests and alumni who took the time to inspire our current Lower Sixth.
