A recent trip to Wales involved a group of Fourth Year Art and Photography students who spent a weekend at the Trinity Boetius Centre in the Brecon Beacons at the end of last term.

It was just after a sprinkling of snow, which made the landscape incredibly beautiful to capture on digital film, but quite challenging (cold and wet) to tackle on foot.

The group visited Llyn y Fan Fach (a glacial lake steeped in folklore legend), Usk Reservoir and the highest waterfall in Wales: Henrhyd Falls. Evenings were spent at the Trinity Boetius Centre playing card games and cementing friendships.

Student Zac Goldschmied shares, “After a ‘harsh’ awakening from Mr Biggs, we all swiftly made our way to breakfast, and by 9:30 we were on the bus going for our first destination. As we stepped off the bus and filled our lungs with the fresh Celtic air, our eyes popped at the possible photos that could be taken. The leading lines were tantalising, the depth was everywhere. We didn’t want to leave, but there was a mountain that needed to be walked up.”

A selection of the photographs captured by staff and students are included here.

The Trinity Boetius Centre is nestled in the stunning wilds of the Brecon Beacons. It is the inspiring legacy of former biology teacher Dick Boetius who worked at the school from 1969-1979 and pioneered outdoor pursuits during that time. Dick relished taking students out of their comfort zones and challenging them in the Great Outdoors.

Since acquiring and renovating the building in 2015, the Trinity Boetius Centre has been used by students from across the school for team-building exercises, outdoor pursuits such as gorge-walking and kayaking and subject-specific field trips including Geography, Art and Photography. The centre is a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas for all ages and is now available for private hire.
