Last week, First and Second Year Trinity Croydon students attended a workshop to inspire them to start thinking about their dream careers. The workshop was hosted by external provider InvestIN Education as part of our Futures Programme.

Students were encouraged to think about the skills they are gaining and the subjects they’re passionate about, and how this might lead to their future career.

InvestIN spoke to the students about the idea of a career, how careers are less linear than they used to be, and the fact that people have an average of 12 jobs in their lifetime! They also covered what employers are looking for, and encouraged students to start thinking about their skills, how to develop them further and how to pursue passions.

All students engaged enthusiastically with the speaker, who remarked how enjoyable it was to have such a switched-on crowd, whether they had thought about their careers or not…

The key takeaways and next steps for students included:

  • Know your skills: list the things you’re good at in the back of your mind
  • Don’t limit yourself: keep your options open and explore careers based on what you enjoy
  • Research: talk about careers, read articles, learn more!
  • Get involved: try to do a lot out of school as extra curriculars help!

As part of the refreshed Futures Programme, we are encouraging students in the Lower School to think creatively about possible careers. There are so many opportunities for our students to find new passions or skills through co-curricular activities, community work or during lessons – we encourage them to try lots of new things.
