Over the summer, the school’s (wonderful) estates team continued to make strides towards reducing Trinity’s carbon footprint and enhancing energy efficiency across the school.
During the summer term, we expanded our solar power capabilities by adding more photovoltaic panels to our roofs, bringing the total to 1,600 – one of the largest arrays on a school in the country. These panels will now generate up to 50% of our annual electricity needs, a significant step towards sustainable energy use.
We’ve also installed eight 22kW electric vehicle charging points on-site for staff, visitors, and parents to use. Located near the Sixth Form Centre, these chargers are accessible via the Monta Charge App. Please note, drivers need to bring their own charging cables, and the cost is £0.59 per kWh.
To further improve our transport efficiency, we’ve added three electric minibuses and four new efficient diesel models to our fleet, ensuring that our vehicles are both greener and more reliable.
In the boiler room, we replaced one large boiler with three smaller, high-efficiency condensing units, reducing the gas consumption required to heat our swimming pool by half. We plan to upgrade all boilers over the coming years to further lower our carbon emissions.
We also have a very active student-led Green Council, involved in various green initiatives across the school. This includes biodiversity projects to take stock of wildlife on-site, engaging younger students in environmental projects and engaging everyone in the Trinity Community Garden (see recent photos of students harvesting this year’s crops).
