On Tuesday, the whole school enjoyed Field Day, when all students go off-timetable to learn outside of the classroom through department-led trips, personal development workshops, co-curricular activities or community action projects.

Community action

In just one day, 200 of our Fourth- and Fifth-Year students contributed more than 1,100 hours to the local community across 22 placements. Students volunteered in primary schools, care homes, charities and environmental sites.

On placements, students were: sorting Harvest boxes at The Vine foodbank, playing music to residents at Cranmer Court and Whitgift House, clearing out animal enclosures at Foal Farm, clearing land at Pinewood Scout Centre, supporting lessons at primary schools, and more.

The feedback has been so positive, with one partner saying, “We were absolutely delighted with the students today; they were an absolute credit to the school. Their enthusiasm, politeness, and the energy they brought to the classrooms were truly appreciated by both staff and students alike. It’s always a pleasure working with Trinity, and we greatly value this partnership.” Well done to all involved.

We also hosted a Tag Rugby festival on Field Day with local primary schools at Trinity. Nine teams played in the development festival in the morning, with a further six teams playing in the afternoon. Our student sports leaders helped manage children, coach and referee the games.

Other highlights from the day:

Trips

  • Our Junior Year students both travelled up to the Natural History Museum in London to explore the wildlife, space and human evolution exhibits for their Junior Science lessons. They also enjoyed a show about ‘Ocean Life and Habitats’.
  • First Year students visited Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, completing a tour of the theatre and participating in Drama workshops. They then hit the streets of London to take in sites of historic interest including The Clink, The Tate Modern and The National Theatre.
  • Second Year students engaged with an inspirational day of STEM, focusing on all things ‘space’ and exploring some of the challenges faced by NASA. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing and Maths all ran different workshops, with Mr Flanagan demonstrating ‘The Weird and Wonderful World of Liquid Nitrogen’.

Personal development workshops

  • Third Year students were working with external experts ‘Beyond Equality’, exploring stereotypes around men and masculinity.
  • Lower Sixth students engaged in a leadership workshop, run by external facilitators Inner Drive. Part of the Diploma programme, students participated in a series of interactive team-based challenges developing leadership, vision and teamwork.
  • The majority of Upper Sixth students spent the day enhancing their university applications – UCAS forms, practice tests, Oxbridge applications and interview practice.

Co-curricular

  • Students pursuing their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards, had a day dedicated to planning their expeditions and honing their skills – including cooking on camp stoves and putting up their tents in the Dell.
  • CCF cadets went off on different adventures – with Army cadets enjoying a night exercise on Monday night, the Navy heading to Merstham for a day of aqua sports, and the RAF contingent heading to RAF Halton training ground in Buckinghamshire.

More feedback from our community partners:

“The boys were absolutely brilliant. They were so engaged, amazing with the children and stayed to support our lunchtime as well – they then received a celebrity send off from all the other children as they left!”

“I have had really positive feedback from teachers and children about their day. Your students were polite, engaged, interested, supportive of what children needed. They took instruction well and asked pertinent questions of adults and children. They were really flexible and gave their best in the various activities we had arranged for them to be involved with”

“The group was wonderful! Your students are excellent, very engaged, and lovely to work with.”

“I think this group was the best yet in terms of cohesion, communication and willingness to get stuck in. It’s fair to say that the group saved me weeks of hard work and have brought our maintenance programme ahead of schedule”
