At the start of the Christmas holidays, cadets from Caterham and Trinity spent two days on the ranges at the British Army’s Training Centre at Pirbright, near Aldershot.

Capt. Muirhead, School Staff Instructor, accompanied the group of Trinity cadets, who were from the Fourth Year to Upper Sixth, and reports back from the camp:

“With a cold, but dry, start to things, rifles were zeroed and basic skills brushed up on. Day one culminated in firing from different positions out to 100m. LCpl Bell (Fifth Year) achieved the highest score of the day, with a very impressive 44 out of 45, and achieving a Marksman standard. Other Marksmen were Cdt Ivanova (Quest) with 39, Cdt Sgt Maj Ibberson (U6th) with 36, LCpl Batra (Fifth Year) with 35, LCpl Madan (Fifth Year) with 34, Cdt Gugliemino (Fourth Year) with 33, and JC Jackson (Fourth Year) with 33. All other Trinity cadets in attendance achieved the Trained Shot level, so well done to everyone.

“On Sunday, things hotted up with a competition engaging targets at 100m, 200m and 300m from various positions, first running 100m to the firing point. This was The Marling Match from the Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting CCF Skill-at-Arms Match. A challenging competition which saw some healthy competition between the details. After all the details had fired, the two best shots from each school ran again in a head-to-head. Cdt Sgt Maj Ibberson made an impressive 34 (out of 40), achieving the highest score of the day, but Caterham snatched victory with their pair’s efforts.

“In all, an excellent weekend of shooting, and we look forward to our next day out on the ranges.”

The CCF at Trinity School, Croydon, offers students the opportunity to experience a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous, and educational activities. Cadets develop a sense of responsibility and the qualities of self-reliance, resourcefulness, leadership, perseverance, and a sense of service to the community. Regular training camps and trips – locally and abroad – are the highlight for cadets and a great opportunity to put their skills to the test and bond with their friends.
