BBC Proms soloist Matthew Ford provides lunchtime masterclass

Music | 14th February 2020

We were delighted to welcome star soloist of the BBC Proms, Matthew Ford, for a lunchtime masterclass with our students.

Two of our top jazz singers, Alexandra Persinaru and Nicholas Challier, were put through their paces in the masterclass.

Both students gave excellent performances throughout, leaving Matthew extremely impressed. An audience of parents, staff and students were then treated to an intimate concert in the Recital Hall.

Not only was it great to see Matthew perform up close but it also gave us the chance to hear some fantastic playing from our very own jazz piano teacher, Roland Perrin.

Special mention should be given to Sixth Former Luca Wade, who augmented the band for their last three numbers and played a top class drum solo on Route 66.

For those who would like to see Matthew again, he will be at the Royal Festival Hall for Simply Sinatra, as guest singer with the London Concert Orchestra on 1 March.
