The service took place at St John the Evangelist Church, Shirley, followed by a reception in the Recital Hall. Robin’s family, former students, colleagues, and friends gathered at the church for a service that truly reflected the lasting impact he had on those around him. It was a warm and heartfelt occasion that honoured his memory and celebrated the kindness, humour, and generosity he shared with so many.
The Trinity Choir, led by Director of Choral Music, Mr Nicholas Mulroy, and accompanied by Mr David Swinson on the organ, performed a moving selection of Robin’s favourite pieces: God Be in My Head, Deep Peace – A Gaelic Blessing, and I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.
Robin began his tenure at Trinity during a period of challenge but immediately set about raising the school’s reputation and improving its facilities. His commitment to fostering excellence in education led him to focus on religious education, the arts, and technical studies. He also oversaw extensive building projects that have had a lasting impact, including the creation of the Berthoud Centre, the Turner Building, the Shaw Building, and the expansion of the library into what is now the Wilson Library.

Under his leadership, Trinity thrived, achieving significant academic and sporting successes. Notable highlights include the school’s victory in the National Independent Schools Challenge Trophy in 1977 and a record-breaking rugby season in 1990–91. Robin was also a passionate supporter of the arts, producing school dramas and children’s operas, and was actively involved with the alumni theatre group, The Mitre Players.

Even after his retirement, Robin remained dedicated to service. He conducted school inspections and supported several local charities, including serving as Chairman of the Croydon branch of the NSPCC. Throughout it all, he was supported by his wife, Caroline, who passed away in August 2024. Robin followed in December 2024.

Robin is survived by his daughters, Kate and Olivia, who shared in many of his adventures and achievements. His legacy continues in the generations of students and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing him, and in all those who now enjoy the wonderful facilities he helped to create at Trinity.
