A new Lower Sixth student has arrived at Trinity School with a European gold medal already under her belt, after representing England U18 Girls at the European Youth Touch Championships this summer.
Ella was part of the England squad competing at the University of Warwick in August, where ten nations came together for a brilliant few days of international touch rugby.
England enjoyed an outstanding tournament, scoring 85 tries and conceding just seven on their way to the European title. They finished their campaign with an emphatic 9-1 victory over France in the final.
For Ella, the tournament was the latest chapter in a rugby journey that began when she was just four years old.
“I got into rugby when I was four, playing for my local rugby union club. Then when I was 11 I started playing touch rugby. I really like how I can play all year round, as touch is more of a summer sport when the union season has finished.”
Ella has now represented England for four years, initially playing mixed touch before moving into the girls’ programme.
“The tournament in the summer was an amazing experience as I got to play against countries like France and Ireland, and the time we spent as a team off the pitch was definitely a highlight.”
Now beginning her Lower Sixth journey at Trinity, Ella is looking forward to getting involved in the wide range of sport on offer to Sixth Form. She said, “At Trinity, I’m really looking forward to participating in other sports like netball and cricket, and also Rosslyn Park 7s later on in the year.”
