The Trinity Open Art Awards 2026 are now open for submissions! The annual art competition, which has been running since 2008, is open to the whole school community including students, family (parents and siblings), staff and alumni.

There is no set theme, aspiring artists are encouraged to be ambitious and free in their subjects and media – video, needlework, painting, photography. Selected entries will be on display at the school, with a private view of the work.

An entry form is available in the Art Department, at the School Reception or can be downloaded here. This should be attached to your submission, and brought to the School Reception. Deadline for all entries is: Friday 5 June.

Parents will be invited to a private view where they will be informed of the winners. Separate prizes will be awarded to entries from Lower School, Middle School and Upper School with one overall winner taking away the glass trophy as part of the final assembly this term. There will also be a prize awarded for family and staff entry.

Last year’s overall winner was then Second Year art scholar Jamie, who submitted a brilliant self-portrait showing some of the anxieties students have around the exam period. The pencil work and shading demonstrated incredible skill and depth to the piece. He said at the time, “The hands represent your own worry and anxiety, the darkness represents the unknown of the exams and your results, and the entire piece showcases the state that your brain undergoes in stressful situations. I generally enjoy portraiture as it does not always require deeper meaning or complex themes; when time is spent on it and when you get it right, portraits can capture the essence of a person and their emotions, or they can remind you of someone. Most of my portraits are of people that I admire, David Attenborough for example.

“It feels incredible to have won this year and I’m really thankful to the art department for all the help they provided. I hope that this inspires other students to participate in the open art contest.”
