During the October, budding Francophiles from the Fourth Year to the Upper Sixth embarked on a trip to Nice to take in the culture, experience everyday life and practise their French speaking.
Fifth Year students Rishi and Emile have provided an entertaining account:
“When Mrs Pardo [Head of French and trip leader] asked us to write a piece on the Nice trip, we said, ‘of course we Cannes!’
(We knew of course that if we didn’t, we’d be in Dieppe trouble and that the school would be a Lille disappointed…)
It didn’t go on for Toulon, and we’d hate Toulouse the great memories of it…
(This piece is going to be a right Metz if you go on like this – Ed).
(Apologies – these puns are Bordeaux-line irritating anyway, so here’s an outline of the trip):
During the trip, we had three hour lessons every morning, to improve our French (a mixture of language and culture). The teachers there were really supportive and made the sessions enjoyable and memorable.
Day 1: After morning lessons at Actilangue (the language school) we went on a tour of Old Nice, starting on the Promenade des Anglais and ending in a quick trip to the cinema.

Day 2: We took an action-packed trip out of the city, visiting Canyon Forest and Accrobranche (a GoApe style course in the countryside).
Day 3: A short train ride away from Nice, we arrived in Monte Carlo, where we saw the renowned Circuit de Monaco. The highlight of the day was visiting the Oceanographic Museum, which celebrated the marine biodiversity of the Mediterranean.

Day 4: Our planned trip to the Matisse Museum was slightly disrupted, thanks to efforts of Storm Benjamin. Instead we indulged in a tour of an independent family-run chocolatier at Port Lympia, before spending the rest of the afternoon at the beach.
Day 5: A treasure of the Côte d’Azur, Cannes, was our final excursion out of Nice. We stood on the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals, and took in the sun on the city’s sandy beach.

Day 6: Our final day was spent wandering around the old town and returning for one last time to the beach. We ended our visit by going to the traditional Chestnut Festival in central Nice.
Overall, we’d say that we had a “Nice” trip!
A huge thank you to Mrs Pardo, Mrs Lattery-Lee, Mr Desbos and of course Actilangue director Michel! 🇫🇷”
